The short grass country of western Kansas can be extremely powerful, but it can also be very challenging. Whatever the weather conditions, the LAR cowherd is expected to calve, breed back on time and wean a good calf in the fall. We have determined genetic lines that perform better under our extreme conditions than others, and so for both us and our customers, those are the genetic lines that we focus on in our breeding program. We strive to breed cattle that are balanced across the board from calving ease and maternal traits, to growth and carcass value. We believe that the genetic selections we make are not only with our own objectives in mind, but also those of our customers.
